Winter storm in China

I can't stop thinking about the status of the orphanages in China as a result of the recent winter storm. Is Mary Anne warm? Is she being fed? The situation is not good. Here is a letter I received from a friend, it is from the Director of the Foster Home, House of Grace.

Friends

we have all seen the news reporting the terrible weather in south and central China. Snow and ice storms have been ravishing the regions of the country where a tepid weather is the norm. Orphanages, which are always next to last to receive disaster relief, are facing especially hard times. Problems include power outages, lack of food, clean water, coal, quilts and warm clothes. Moreover, latest reports state that this weather is likely to continue for another 10 days.

The situation is critical. Many orphanages have not received any aid, and will get no relief other that what we provide. Resources are scarce; costs of basic necessities like food and coal are doubling or even tripling. The transportation system, already choked with holiday travel, is being pushed further into chaos because of cancelled trains and snowed in train tracks. Because of this, we cannot ship blankets or food directly and have them arrive in time to help.

I have heard personally from one orphanage they have some children who’s hands and fingers have got frost bite and are black may need to be amputated.

We here are finding it very cold as it is 5 deg where it would usually be 10 or 15 deg at this time. We have not seen the sun for several days and so the bugs are not getting cleaned by the sun.’

We have now got half of our babies with vomiting and diarrhoea.

It is so important that you pray for us all here .We can always use prayer.

God is able to move mountains and get help to all.

Love Sandra.

I was thinking and worrying a lot before I received this letter now it is constantly on my mind. There are families that have their referral but have not yet traveled to China. I can only imagine how worried they are. You can go to Half the Sky Foundation and find out which areas and orphanages are struggling with the storm.
