Happy Chinese New Year and all the best in the Year of the Pig!

GUNG HAY FAT CHOY! That's Happy New Year in Chinese, although the more accurate translation is more like "Wishing you prosperity!". The New Year heralds the coming of spring (in China it is called the Spring Festival) and the reunion of the family. Families like to welcome the New year with a clean slate. Houses are cleaned from top to bottom to remove all traces of the old year and its misfortunes, and to bring good luck for the coming year. New outfits are made or bought for children and adults. At Chinese New Year celebrations people wear red clothes, decorate with poems on red paper, and give children "lucky money" in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck.

You are a big if you were born in any of these years: 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007. You are hardworking, caring, trustworthy, kind, sensible, charitable, amusing, hospitable, affectionate and self-sacrificing. You often make friends for life. For pigs in 2007, any recent setbacks or obstacles can be overcome so look forward to a year in which to really shine, either personally or professionally. :)

Happy Chinese New Year Mary Anne!
