Christine and Cailean are now in the Shanghai Children's hospital and she asked me to update the blog..... if you can think of a place totally opposite to Christine's life in Victoria, there is the Shanghai Children's hospital. They are in a four patient room and each of the other kids has a large family entourage. There is lots of noise. She will sleep with Cailean in the same bed. There is one shared bathroom for the patients and their family members without soap, toilet paper or towels and it is currently full of drying clothes. There is no kitchen area and all of the food and supplies are brought in by other volunteers. There is a hospital cafeteria, but is serves only the most authentic chinese food. There is no Starbucks. There is no internet. It is not easy.
They were told to be there by 7 AM today. The surgery is scheduled for 8 AM tomorrow. She is relieved that he is first. He had his head shaved today.
A friend of Christine's friend Lucy lives in Shanghai and she visited this evening. They had no problem recognizing each other as they are the only non Chinese folks in the place.

Glad to hear that all is going as well as can expected. As for all the families etc being in the hospital etc I think it is somewhat nice to have family around.
Thanks Iain for the update. Happy to read Cailean will be first for the surgery!
Crossing fingers...
talk about being out of your comfort zone! Thinking of you,
